 | Subject: UPDATE Fri 08 May 2009, 10:45 pm | |
| President Barack Obama's $787b Stimulus Package: unemployment benefits - extend benefits to 46 weeks and boost weekly payments by $25,00 and the 1st $2,400 in benefits will be exempt in 2009 from federal income taxes COBRA healthcare coverage - premium costs 65 percent subsidy for nine months Unemployed workers pay 35 percent of the premium & employers cover the cost by deducting the amount from their federal payroll taxes. If you did NOT elect COBRA coverage because you could not afford it you can elect it now (I have this it was effective for premium payments starting 2/15/2009) tax cut for workers NOT a rebate/refund - Individual workers will get a $400 tax credit and couples $800 in 2009 and 2010. Unlike last year's stimulus program, which sent out one-time checks, the stimulus will take less tax money from workers' paychecks. The tax cut, estimated at about $13 a week in 2009, will begin showing up in June.Social Security recipient bonus' - one-time $250 payment http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2009/02/17/what_will_the_787b_stimulus_do_for_you/ |
