| My favorite father's day was when I was about nine, and my Dad, Uncle, sister and I spent the weekend building our new swing set. So much fun! |

| I remember the Father's Day that stays in my mind the most. I was living in a different town away from my dad, and raising two young boys left my husband & I financially strapped. My mom had passed away the year before, suddenly, at the age of 53. Three months after my mom's death my youngest sister graduated from high school. For Father's Day I did two things that came from my heart, instead of my pocketbook. I had a picture of my dad & all four of us girls (yes, my dad was blessed with all females) that was taken at graduation. I took the picture, which was as standard 4x6 & I used it as a post card, sending it to him @ work, writing a message of love on the back of it to him. I knew that everyone would see it & comment on it because there would be several hands it would be going through before it reached him. I also sent him a Father's Day card, in which I enclosed a letter thanking him for being my dad. I poured my heart & soul into it, reminding him of all the times he came to my rescue, and how I might not have always gotten along with him at the time, but in the long run, I had to agree. He called me, crying, after he read that letter. To me, that was not only my favorite Father's Day, but the one that I will remember forever. He passed away in 2000, and when I was packing up his personal belongings, I found that letter. It was in his wallet, well worn, but still legible. I found the pic/postcard too, guess it goes to show, that money isn't what matters. Love is much more important! |
